The project:
Enjoy Community Tourism with the Albino Lliuya family
Here you can experience how native farmers live and you can learn about their life in the community, close to the city of Huaraz.
The activities that are performed are amongst others: traditional agriculture, livestock, adventure tourism, as well as short or long hikes.
Juventino's family offers great hospitality in their home town of Unchus.
About Us:
Juventino Albino Caldua: Works as a professional mountain guide. Moreover, he follows his activities as a farmer in the off-season months, where few tourists visit the Cordillera Blanca.
Dina Lliuya Reyes: Juventino's wife, she is a typical woman from Unchus using very traditional clothing of the region. She speaks the native language, Quechua.
Native Language: Quechua and official Language Spanish
About Accommodation / our house:
We have a very comfortable house with private rooms and shared rooms. It is also possible to camp and do campfires at our place. Moreover, you can do lots of different hikes like for example a day hike to Lake Churup or a visit to the villages of Marian or Wilcahuain and you can do great mountain biking trips in the surroundings.
Things to do or practice with the native farmers in our village
harvest sowing and reaping: potatoes, corn, wheat, oca (potato of the Incas) and quinoa etc.
Livestock/Animals that you can see
Sheep, donkeys, cows, bulls, horses, pigs, guinea pigs, chickens and other.
Typical food in the area
In Unshus we will serve you typical food, like for example Quinoa Soup, Llunca and Pachamanca (a very special meal and tradition of the Incas). This meal is prepared by hand.
First you have to build a stone oven and heat it up for about an hour.
Then you put some things in the stone oven like potatoes, yams, tamales, corn, chicken, pork, beef, etc. The last step is to bury everything with earth and let it steam for around an hour.
Traditional Festivals:
April 26: celebration of Easter, tribute to Mr UNCHUS the San Miguel Arcanguel, and October 06: patronal festival with bullfights and fireworks.
During those festivals we eat a lot of guinea pig and other typical dishes of the area and practice our traditional dances.
